MicroScent /IGT web site announcement
 International Game Technology will be introducing
the first gaming industry device to use scent as a fragrance-enhanced game component.
The initial game to use MicroScent technology will be the new I Love Lucy ®slot machine. This is another in
the series of "personality" games that IGT has added to the Mega Prize system.
The I Love Lucy game is based on the famous Chocolate Factory episode, where Lucy and Ethel are working on a candy
production line. When a game player hits a bonus round line, the video is shown and a milk chocolate fragrance
is emitted from the front of the game toward the player. The sequence lasts a short time, during which the milk
chocolate fragrance is easily smelled by the game player without interruption.
IGT chose MicroScent to supply the scent generating devices after a comprehensive qualification process. The scent
delivery units in each game needed to operate with minimal maintenance and for extended periods of time. MicroScent
was able to develop a customized unit for IGT that fits into the tight cabinet space in the game without requiring
any modification of the existing components' positions. The resultant scent generator is capable of producing a
rich, milk chocolate flavored fragrance for up to a year, literally thousands of operating hours, without replenishment.
The new I Love Lucy game will be seen beginning in April in casinos and other gaming establishments in Nevada and
New Jersey. Other jurisdictions will follow. Public reaction where the game has been shown has been enthusiastic,
with most people finding the addition of scent to be entertaining, intriguing, and "just plain fun." |
