including fine fragrance, personal care and food products: The consumer
experience at the point of sale for most consumer products is greatly enhanced when accompanied by scent. The MicroScent
generator provides a realistic, brand-accurate aroma at just the right intensity and longevity to make the experience
pleasurable and memorable.
Home Theaters: Home theaters offer
a tremendous opportunity for MicroScent. The idea of adding aroma to the home theater experience is not new, and
several attempts have been made to work out an effective way to accomplish this goal. Unfortunately, (or fortunately,
depending on the point of view) these methods were not able to deliver scents quickly and then remove them quickly,
in sequence with the events on the screen. The scents were disbursed in large uncontrolled quantities which remained
present when they needed to be absent, and could not be adjusted for timing and individual preferences. The MicroScent
technologies make this possible with newly developed techniques in quantity control, fluid mechanics, micro-circuitry
and scent delivery. The MicroScent generator was originally conceived to make scented movies and videos a reality.
Entertainment industry applications, including entertainment experience enhancement:
Entertainment experiences are reaching a new level of sophistication as
destination resorts install the latest in "ride experiences". Las Vegas hotels and newer theme parks,
such as Universal Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom, are leading this trend. Adding aromas to the experience
is a natural extension of this trend, and MicroScent's technologies offer a new level of control to the entertainment
designer.
Computer gaming enhancement: Game
designers have driven the growth of gaming technologies by adding excitement through their refinement of the games'
audio and visual experience. MicroScent's precision fragrance generating technology offers designers the ability
to add a very exciting sensory component to further expand the dynamics of gaming. This is a significant and timely
development. In 1997, for the first time, revenue from an individual game exceeded the revenue of the highest grossing
movie. Surveys by the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA) show that playing video/computer games is
as popular as watching television. The market for video/computer games reached $6.9 billion in 2002.
Virtual Reality Centers: Driven by
realistic 3-D animations allowed by the current generation of low-cost high-speed processors, Virtual Reality Centers
are starting to open in major cities across the U.S. Aroma is a natural extension of these experientially based
entertainment complexes. Any number of creative enhancements can be envisioned, from automotive smells with racing
games, to olfactory clues in the role playing scenario games.
Education: Educational programs will
use scent to enhance their users learning experience enjoyment and increased retention (a proven impact of scent).
